De herfst is voor vele volwassenen het begin van een sombere
tijd. Regen, mist, de dagen worden kouder en donkerder… niets leuk aan, toch?
Maar voor de kleinsten gaat er dan een hele nieuwe wereld open! Zo ook bij M,
die nu op school volop leert over het levensproces van de bomen. Hoe blaadjes
die bruin worden en afvallen, dienen als voedsel voor de bomen zodat die in de
lente weer opnieuw kunnen bloeien. Heel fascinerend allemaal, vooral nu met al
die prachtige kleuren.
En het leukste van allemaal: er valt vanalles te rapen!
Blaadjes, takjes, kastanjes, steentjes, kastanjes, denne-appels, stukjes mos,
en had ik kastanjes al vermeld? Want die zijn nog het leukste aan de herfst! Je
kan uren spenderen met zoeken en verzamelen, ze daarna fier op de salontafel
uitstallen, en dan ineens opeten of eerst door mama of een andere vrijwilliger
laten poffen. Héérlijk!
Omdat kleuters graag vanalles van de grond rapen en de
herfst hiervoor dus de ideale gelegenheid is,
besloten Donas en ik om een heuse herfst zoektocht in elkaar te steken.
Het principe is heel simpel: je gaat met de kids naar een
bos of park en geeft ze elk een plastiek zakje en kaart zoals je hier kan
vinden. Elk voorwerp dat op de kaart staat, moeten ze zoeken en in het zakje
steken. Enkel de zaken die niet ‘los’ liggen, zoals het bloemetje en de
paddenstoel, mogen ze gewoon aanwijzen. Kwestie om ook de natuur te
respecteren. Wie het eerst alle vakjes heeft kunnen afvinken is de winnaar.
Ofwel voorzie je een kleine beloning voor de winnaar, maar nog leuker is om
iedereen te belonen, met een lekkere warme chocomelk bijvoorbeeld. Ook de
volwassenen zullen hiertegen niet nee zeggen!
En met de gevonden voorwerpen kan je nadien nog een leuk
kunstwerkje maken, zodat een regenachtige namiddag ook ineens gevuld is. Veel plezier met de zoektocht!

For a lot of grown-ups, autumn is a dreary
time. Rain, fog, colder and darker days… no fun at that, don’t you agree? But
for the little ones, autumn is the start of a whole new world! Same goes for M
who now learns in school about the circle of life when it comes to trees. How
the leave turn brown and fall of, and then serve as food so the tree can bloom
again in spring. Very fascinating, especially with all these magnificant
colours!
And the most fun of it all, it is the one time
where you are allowed to pick stuff up from the ground! Leaves, chestnuts,
rocks, chestnuts, pinecones, pieces of moss, and did I mention chestnuts?
Because they are the most fun about autumn! You can spend hours searching and
collecting them, then proudly display them onto the tabel, and then eat them or
let mommy or another volunteer pop them. Delicious!
So because toddlers are so fund of picking
stuff up from the ground, Donas and I decided that autumn was the perfect
opportunity to create a real Autumn Scavenger Hunt.
It is actually quite simple: you take your kids
to the park or woods and give them each a chart (as you can find here) and a
plastic bag. They now have to find each item on the chart and put it in the
bag. However this only counts for ‘loose’ items, stuff like flowers and
mushrooms are best left untouched so we don’t disturb nature. The first one to
complete the entire chart wins. Maybe you foresee a small reward for the
winner, or you can reward everyone with a hot coco. Even adults won’t say no to
this!
With the gathered objects you can create a
small piece of art, this will make a great activity for one of those rainy
afternoons. Good luck with the hunt!
